Nissan has announced it’s taking a $50 million bet on the Supra sports car.
The Supras’ 2.1-liter turbocharged, 4.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which powers the car’s top speed of 320 mph, will be offered in four different versions: the Supras S and S2, the first of which will go on sale in 2020, and the Supramans, which will be released in 2025.
The company says the two cars will be sold in three models: the sport coupe, which is priced at $39,995; the sedan, which retails for $49,995 and will go up to $65,000; and the SUV, which starts at $57,995, and will sell for $72,995.
The SUV will come with a six-speed manual transmission and a five-speed automatic.
In 2020, the Supranas will get a special edition model called the Suprago that retails at $100,000.
The new Suprabes will be powered by a 2.3-liter flat-six and can go from 0-60 mph in just 5.3 seconds.
They will also have a powertrain that has the highest torque of any sports car ever, at 6,900 pounds of torque, and an overall fuel economy of 26.7 mpg.
The two-seat Suprabs will come standard with the all-new XPS 11 touchscreen, which features a 5.8-inch LCD display, 4K resolution, and is able to read and write in both Japanese and English.
The car is slated to go on display at the Tokyo Motor Show this month.
The Supra’s debut is a significant milestone for the brand.
Nissan debuted the first Supras in 2014 with the XPS, which has been the company’s most popular sports car for the past four years.
The first two Supras debuted in Japan in 2019 and 2020, respectively, and each time they sold out in a matter of hours.
The new Supras are Nissan’s first sports car to get a full facelift and the first in the world to be offered with the latest version of the company-developed ActiveTrack infotainment system.
