BBC Sport has revealed it will be the first sports channel to be acquired by the BBC and will replace the BBC Sport website and its news and analysis channel.
The new sports channel will focus on Welsh sport, which has traditionally been seen as more mainstream than in other parts of the UK, with the aim of attracting more mainstream audiences.
Its aim is to offer more local news and features, including on-air and on-demand content.
BBC Sport’s news and analyses are produced by the company’s news team, with its digital news division being managed by BBC Wales Digital.
It will be led by BBC Sport Chief Executive Richard Handley.
The move is the latest in a series of changes made by BBC chief executive, Richard Handle, who took over the company from David Dimbleby last year.
